Hey everyone, Kimi here! Renovating a home can be expensive. Back in the early '80s, my grandmother found an old house from the 1950s and moved it to the lot where it sits today. This house was meant to be for my mom in the future. At first, it only had two rooms, but my uncle split it into two bedrooms, a small bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen. In 1989, my mom and her three kids, including me, moved in.
By the early '90s, my mom and grandmother started adding on to the other side of the house. Although some work was done, it was never completed because many of the older workers passed away. Over time, the addition became a storage space for my mom’s collecting habits. The dream my mom and grandma had for the house was never finished, and my grandmother passed away in 2001 without seeing it completed.
Fast forward to December 2023: While I was living in my own house, my mom expressed a wish to one day have a Christmas tree. That moment made me realize it was time to act. In June 2024, I moved in with my mom and stepdad to start decluttering both our belongings and hers. It took a lot of convincing, but once she mentioned the Christmas tree, I knew she was ready for change. Eventually, she allowed me to transfer the house into my name.
I’m just starting this journey now. Financially, things are tight. My mom and stepdad live on a fixed income, and as a medically retired veteran, my own income is limited too. Although I work as a real estate broker, there aren’t many houses selling in this area, and the economy isn’t great.
That’s why I’m sharing our story. Will you help me make my mom’s dream of completing her home come true? She’s such a simple person, and it doesn’t take much to make her happy. That’s what drives me to see this project through. She truly deserves it!
